Magnesium Fertilizer Increased Growth, Rhizome Yield, and Essential Oil Content of Ginger (Zingiber officinale) in Organic Field

Ginger (Zingiber officinale) is the main biopharmaceutical export commodity of Indonesia. However, its productivity and quality are low because it not cultivated using optimal techniques. This study aimed to examine effect magnesium (Mg) fertilizer on growth, rhizome yield, essential oil content two ginger varieties in organic field. The factors tested were rate Mg application (0, 50, 100, 150 kg MgOha-1) variety (elephant [Zingiber officinale var. officinarum] red rubrum]). variables measured plant height, number leaves, tillers, weight, content. significantly affected No interaction effects found between factors. applied at MgOha-1 resulted highest yield content, with an increase 21.74% 15.38%, respectively, compared control (0 MgOha-1). elephant was 29.41% higher than that ginger, whereas 16.67% ginger.
